Comet NEOWISE July 2020
Comet Neowise is a long period comet with a near-paraolic orbit discovered on March 27, 2020. Neowise is know for being the brightest comet in the northern hemisphere since Comet Hale-Bopp in 1997. It is visible to the naked eye.
The main tail made of dust is wider, being pushed around by the solar radiation, the comets movement, and the suns gravity. But, it has particles of various sizes, so they don't move in unison to these forces, so it spreads out. The ion tail however (the straight blue one on the left) is made up of individual atoms, which all behave similarly, and point directly away from the sun. It's actually ionized carbon monoxide.
Full disclosure: This image was flipped so the wording on the cemetery gate was correct. Thus, the tail is facing the opposite direction.
